cardio kickboxing is an exercise that combines kickboxing movements, in a fast-paced manner, usually accompanied by high-tempo music. In a cardio kickboxing class, you will learn proper form for the famous jab, hooks, crosses, uppercuts, back kicks, front kicks, and the like—all engaging both your lower and upper body. You will even learn how to mash two or three of those exercises together to up the intensity into a kickboxing training combo that will get your heart rate way, way up! In some classes, instructors will bring boxing pads or gloves, so that you can land your punches and kicks on something soft, and benefit from the extra tension in the pads.

1. Reduce Stress

If you feel like you’re not zen enough for yoga, kickboxing is one of the best ways to unleash your frustration and relieve your stress. Not only do you get to let it all out kicking and punching but kickboxing also helps release your “happy” brain chemicals: serotonin and dopamine. These chemicals help you feel happier and more relaxed.

2. Learn Self Defense

Kickboxing provides some of the most realistic self-defense techniques. Learning how to strike, kick, knee, and perform elbow strikes will give you the basics if you ever find yourself in an unsafe situation.

3. Burn Mega Calories

Each class burns anywhere between 600-800 Calories for an average size woman (this number changes based on your weight and effort during class). Kickboxing is a fast paced, high energy class that will burn mega calories during class and leave your metabolism soaring.

4. It’s social activity

Meet new people and be part of a like-minded group. One of the great things about kickboxing is that it’s a great place to meet friends or spend time with your existing friends in a health promoting way! Instead of meeting for dinner or a drink every night, invite your best bud to be a badass with you!

5. Flexibility and Mobility

An under-appreciated benefit of kickboxing is flexibility and mobility improvement. Kicks open your hips and stretch out those pesky tight hip flexors! Punches are a rotational movement which improves your body’s core function (one of the many reasons for our name Core Strength Fitness)!

6. Improved Coordination

Kickboxing will improve your coordination as it trains your brain to react, aim, and utilize both your right and left sides.

7. Cardiovascular Endurance

Kickboxing will make your heart and lungs stronger improving your overall cardiovascular health and endurance. A strong cardiovascular system will allow your body to absorb oxygen more efficiently and keep your body healthier for longer!

Hopefully I’ve convinced you to follow in my footsteps and give kickboxing a try. I know new workouts can feel scary, but I promise it will be worth it! Mike and I will walk you through every punch, knee, elbow and kick so that you can fall in love with kickboxing just like we have.
